L’art pour l’art

Art for art's sake, what is it and why don't I get it ?

Let's strip art of any emotional, political, moral or social objective and what is left ? I'll phrase it as delicately as I can ... piffle ! An extension of the artists' self worth, masked as something you can't refuse to admire or appreciate, then, if you don't get it, if you can't see artistic merit, clearly you are not cultured and don't belong to the privileged class of society for whom this kind of work is intended.

What makes life on earth worth living are things like virtue, art, music, dance, reason, intellect - something that transfigures, something refined, fantastic and divine.
